packing photography equipment for long international trip

In a few months I will be traveling to the south pacific for 4 weeks of photography. What makes packing for the trip difficult is the amount of gear I use coupled with the restrictions the airlines have. These days airlines like Chatham allow for 20 Kilos or about 44 pounds and have fees for extra pieces. Air pacific always seems to charge a hundred or two on each leg. On a multi-stop ticket the charges add up fast.

On this trip I will be doing ambient light and flash wide angle, & macro photography. Breaking that down into a list looks like this. A Nexus housing with two wide angle ports, Ikelite housing with one macro port, one wide angle port, 4 Ikelite DS 160 strobes, Small video system, cables, batteries with charger,2 Nikon D300 bodies, a 10-17 Tokina fish-eye lens, 12-24 Nikon zoom lens, 50 mm standard, 60 mm macro lens, 28-70 Tamron Zoom, 70-200 mm Nikon 2.8 mm zoom lens, 1.4 Nikon tele extender, Nikon SB flash, 3 - 16 gig, and 1- 32 gig compact flash media cards, & three 500 gig external hard drives.

This will require more than the baggage allowance allows and so that limits the clothes, and dive equipment I will bring. I will bring three pair of shorts, four t-shirts, one pair of sandals, a few boxers, jeans, rain jacket, fleece, one long sleeve shirt, a 3 mm vest with hood, a pair of 1 mm lycra shorts, 2 long sleeve rash guards, 2 masks, fins, 2 snorkels. I will take a tamrac back pack and computer case with me and fill it with computer, cameras and lenses to lighten the load in the case.

Making a list and packing well before a big trip enables me to make sure I have not forgotten anything important like adapters for different countries power plugs, battery chargers, & sun screen.

Happy travels to everyone.
